Dr. Elfreda Chatman: Library Leadership by Examining the Socially and Economically Marginalized

Summary:

This presentation seeks to introduce attendees to the work of Dr. Elfreda Chatman who personified the core of Critical Management Studies through the diversity and fluidity of people who serve in the public sphere and examining the server’s role. By examining the various ethnographic studies that Chapman completed on those often considered socially and economically marginalized, attendees will better understand:
1) effective communication
2) strategies for a diverse workplace, and
3) action ideas that can enhance DEI leadership and hiring practices.

Presenters:

Elizabeth Johnson (Bowling Green State University, Ph.D.) is an Associate Professor of History and Assistant Director of Operations and Planning at Tennessee State University. Dr. Johnson’s research and speaking interests are grounded in Intersectionality, Semiotics, and Group Identity theories, including hair aesthetics and body image; 20th Century U.S. history; and magazine, television, and film representation of ethnicity and gender.

Donald Culverson (University of California, Santa Barbara, Ph. D.) is a Full Professor of Political Science and Social Justice Studies at Governors State University in University Park, IL. Dr. Culverson’s research and speaking interests revolve around linkages between global interdependence and the distribution of social justice. Among the courses he teaches are: political economy, social inequality, and institutional violence.
