Summary
In our dynamic environment, where collaboration is key to meeting our individual, organizational, and institutional goals, and a university, mastering the art of planning and leading effective meetings is essential. This workshop is tailored specifically for academic library professionals to equip them with strategies to foster collaboration by optimizing meetings, making them more efficient, engaging, and outcome oriented.
Presenters
Timothy Hackman (he/him) joined the Old Dominion University Libraries as Dean of Libraries in July 2022. As Dean he is responsible for day to day operations, strategic planning, budgeting, personnel, and all other aspects of the Libraries, which includes the Patricia W. and J. Douglas Perry Library, the Elise N. Hofheimer Art Library, and the F. Ludwig Diehn Composers Room and Music Library. Effective July 1, 2024, it also includes the Brickell Medical Sciences Library for Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. Previously Mr. Hackman was Associate Director for Public Services at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), part of the University System of Maryland, from March 2019 to July 2022. Prior to that he spent 17 years at the University of Maryland in various roles, including Director of User Services & Resource Sharing (2012-2019), Liaison Librarian for English & Linguistics (2006-2012), and Librarian for the Paul Wasserman Library of the College of Information Studies (2002-2006). He earned his MA in English Language & Literature (2006) and Master of Library Science (2002) at the University of Maryland, and a BA in English from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania (1999). He has published and presented on leadership and change management, project management, perceptions and use of e-books, open access, and faculty outreach. In his spare time, he enjoys reading crime fiction and comics, cooking, woodworking, spending time with his wife, Jackie, and dog, Otto, and writing and podcasting about professional wrestling. Lucy Wittkower (she/her) joined the Old Dominion University (ODU) Libraries in 2012 as the Education Reference Librarian and has also held the positions of Head of Teaching & Learning Initiatives (2017-2023) and Head of Libraries Education & Assessment (2023-present). Prior to coming to ODU she was a librarian at Coastal Carolina University. Lucinda previously taught middle school music for ten years and holds a Masters in Music Education from Shenandoah University and a Masters in Library and Information Science from University of South Carolina. She is currently a Ph.D. student in ODU’s Educational Psychology and Program Evaluation program. Lucy has published and presented on a variety of topics including undergraduate internships, assessment of library instruction programs, teaching information literacy to undergraduate students, and open educational resources. In her free time, she enjoys travel and hanging out with her husband, 2 kids (ages 14 and 12), and cats.
