How to Create a Scholarly Communications Office

Join us for a discussion with Jeff Graveline, Associate Dean for Research and Scholarly Communication and Dr. Marla Hertz, Associate Professor and the Research Data Management (RDM) Librarian in the Office of Scholarly Communication who work at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Libraries. They will be discussing his process for establishing the Office of Scholarly Communication: the challenges and the successes. This will be an essential call for anyone wishing to build up their own scholarly communication efforts at their own institutions.
Panelists
Jeff Graveline is a Professor and the Associate Dean for Research and Scholarly Communication in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Libraries. He also serves as the Director of the UAB Libraries Office of Scholarly Communication. He is actively involved with the American Library Association (ALA), the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL), and the Alabama Library Association (ALLA). His research areas include copyright, scholarly communication, and library leadership.
Marla Hertz, PhD, is an Associate Professor and the Research Data Management (RDM) Librarian in the Office of Scholarly Communication at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Dr. Hertz earned her PhD in Microbiology at UAB. She was a postdoctoral fellow at UAB and a senior scientist at Washington University in St. Louis. As a RDM Librarian, Dr. Hertz trains researchers to manage their data effectively and her research focuses on how to tailor RDM training to different learner groups.
