This session will aim to inform library specialists about the following matters:
Which are the intricacies involved in making music material accessible? Accessibility for music material presents significant challenges compared to text formats and these complexities will be discussed.
Secondly, what kind of workflows support the conversion of printed & digital scores into braille music notation? Additionally, where are these workflows mostly implemented? (e.g. libraries, organizations, individual braille music transcribers).
Moreover, what software solutions facilitate the process of translating printed & digital scores to braille music notation?
Furthermore, what are the common advantages & disadvantages resulting from the overall process of converting printed & digital scores into braille notation?
Finally, this session will highlight specific organizations and libraries that provide services and documentation in the field of braille music transcription.
PRESENTER: Anna Dimoula is the Scholarly Communications Librarian for the Performing Arts & Humanities at the University of Miami. In this role, Anna is primarily responsible for providing her service to a variety of UM Library activities, including management of the Institution’s repository system Scholarship@Miami, supporting digital platforms, consulting on copyright issues, and assisting with scholarly publishing requests by faculty from the Frost School of Music and the Humanities department.
