ASERL's Cooperative Digitization Project
"The Intellectual Underpinnings of the American Civil War"
Focusing on Materials Published between 1850 - 1865
ASERL libraries
seek to digitize at least 5,000 new items published between 1850 and
1865 drawn from across the consortium, as one method of commemorating
the sesquicentennial of the start of the American Civil War. The
newly-digitized items will be served up by the library that owns the
original item and cataloged on WorldCat. ASERL is considering
options for a centralized portal that will allow searching the combined
metadata via a single interface. See the original press release here.
Scanning and Metdata Specifications for this project are available here.
Developing the Collection
Each ASERL library is asked to contribute 150 or more items to the
shared virtual collection. ASERL libraries are asked to provide
basic information about the items they will be digitizing as part of
this project via this form.
This will allow others to see what is under development and
consider contributing complementary items to help round-out the
collection.
Anyone can view the form here to see what items are being contributed by other ASERL libraries.
